DANCE BACKGROUND

69 years ago my mom, Ruth Thomas, started her first studio with a friend in a city neighborhood in Pittsburgh. She and, eventually we, had many different locations in more than one American Legion, church basement and the Lithuanian Hall in the South Side. We expanded our dance classes to the South Hills in multiple rental spaces such as Lou Kairy’s restaurant and the old Ames Department Store. Finally, in 1967 we rented a space on Highland Road in Bethel Park and our first brick and mortar space was born! We called that our dance home for over 30 years.

We expanded to a larger space on Painters Run Road and a second location in Oakdale on Steubenville Pike and were a growing family business. During that time we welcomed new friends to our faculty and new families to our dance community. In 2009, the Spencer Family purchased our Bridgeville building and in just over 5 months turned it into our beautiful Studio. In 2021 we completed an expansion project with our most recent addition that brought our space to 10,000 square feet.

I speak about our physical studios, evolution and growth, but the growth of our dance training and dance studio I credit to my daughter, “Miss” Jessica, and our amazing and loving faculty and staff.
Above all else we are a family business who looks at our dancers as “our family” and I could not be more proud of what we have accomplished together. I know my mom, Ruth, who started this beautiful place with a dream and a traveling sound system would be amazed at what her little dream has evolved into today and that she would be so proud.

I am so happy that you are a part of our dance life and journey.

A FEW OF MY FAVORITE THINGS

  • When I’m not at the Studio, you can find me spending time with my family and dog Georgie, working in my garden, and spending time at the lake.

QUOTE

Be avid. Create apart from perfection. Risk failure. Cover your words with sweat. Run a little. Touch excruciatingly. Laugh until you cry. Dance with your eyes closed. Care. Understand you die a little in every moment. Be Enlivened.
